What Is A Coaching Business Mind Map?

What Is A Coaching Business Mind Map, Jenesis Rose Long, M.ED.

Sometimes I really struggle to get my ideas out. My head is a whirlwind of possibilities, but there’s nothing connecting the dots. Some might call it “writer’s block”, others call it “creative slowdown”… either way the effect is the same. You feel like your brain is running a million miles an hour until you hit a wall and can’t make sense of it anymore. For me, this has looked like getting distracted by TikTok, online shopping, or watching Gilmore Girls through for the 20th time. I set out to figure out how to regain inspiration and lay out my thoughts in a visual way so I could process my ideas better. Now, I want to teach you what a coaching business mind map is and how you can implement this practice in your business.

What is a mind map?

Have you ever worked on a big project and had a brainstorming session to get all your ideas out? If yes, then you’re already halfway to understanding what a mind map is! Mind mapping adds a visual/organizational aspect to brainstorming that makes it easier to identify patterns and relationships in the data. Journaling and brainstorming are excellent tools for getting all of your thoughts out but they can leave you confused and chasing rabbit holes if you don’t have a solid foundation for your thoughts.

With a mind map, you get the benefits of brainstorming to get all your ideas out with an organization method that makes interpreting your ideas and drawing connections easier. This way you can draw more meaningful conclusions from your thoughts!

Think of a mind map like a specific structure for taking notes. While you’re digging deep in your mind you don’t have time to organize your thoughts, you need to get them written down first! If you practice mind mapping, then you can organize your thoughts while you take notes. This creative process works so well because it’s designed to structure our ideas in a similar way to our brain.

How does it work?

Our brains tend to focus on core ideas and branch out from them. If you’ve ever felt like you had tunnel vision for your goal then that’s why! Our brains are expert pattern finders and always try to use past information to guide our decisions. The problem with this is sometimes the best ideas are in the abstract connections between our core thoughts. Breaking free from our own thought patterns is difficult to do, so that’s where mind mapping comes in. Writing out our thoughts in a way that mimics how our brain works helps stimulate our ability to make those connections.

How can I implement this?

Find a method for mind mapping that works for you and complete your first map. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Heck, what even is perfect?! Just get your thoughts out following whichever method works best for you.

Take time to analyze the bridges between your thoughts and see how they connect. What are the core themes? What stands out to you the most? Use this time to meditate on where your mind is at and any changes you want to manifest.

Finally, repeat these steps as often as you’d like. I’d say at a minimum you should be doing this every month! It makes such a big difference for your mindset to be consistently working on understanding yourself better.
