My FAVORITE season is Fall. Like it’s not even a competition! The cool crisp air, the changing leaves, the rain… My favorite part, however, is the shift in pace that Fall brings to my life. Almost overnight the weather changes to gloomy and overcast, the kayaks get put away into winter storage, and the longer nights are spent cuddled up with my dogs and my husband watching Gilmore Girls and drinking hot chocolate. If there was a better metaphor for what it’s like to scale your coaching business then I don’t know what it is!
When I first started my coaching business it was like summer: hot, busy, and frantically trying to fit everything in before the cold comes. I was running laps around myself trying to get everything done. Designing a website, creating freebies, running ad campaigns.. The list was endless and so was my stress. Don’t get me wrong, I had fun. It was an exciting new project that I got to pour all my passion and energy into and I did just that. A creative outlet where I was able to express my passion for helping others while making actual, tangible change in people’s lives.
Eventually my time became a commodity that was too expensive to waste and I had to learn how to get more efficient. Between my full-time job and my business I was spreading myself too thin. I searched around for a solution and trust me when I tell you everyone has an opinion on how to scale your coaching business. Switching to a course format, using an all in one system like Kajabi, or even trying to sell workbooks and trainings. All of these solutions work but they cut out the most important reason I started coaching in the first place! Getting to interact with my clients and watch as they grow and achieve the success they dream of.
Scale Your Coaching Business
When I got my Masters of Education studying program development and curriculum strategies I developed a passion for creating coaching programs that help streamline the process of delivering results to my clients. By creating a program I was able to feel confident in the results I could deliver, while giving a consistent framework for my clients to tackle their biggest struggles and blocks while feeling supported and having access to all the information they need to be successful. So I thought… Why not turn it into a group coaching program?
I realized I was holding myself back so much by only offering 1:1 sessions with my clients. Every time I made a sale I was so happy to work with a new client but it also represented hours of work I had to fit into my already busy schedule. The solution? Instead of offering 1:1 calls, I offered a set schedule of group calls. Two times a week I would host a virtual session that all of my clients could join and ask questions about the program they were working through. I was nervous at first… Were people going to get the same value out of it? Would they be able to have their needs met?
What I found was it actually provided a whole new level of support! The women in my group were able to help each other and keep each other accountable. I included a recording of each call in my facebook group which meant that clients could go back and listen to questions they hadn’t even thought of that gave them clarity in their own program.
The Importance Of Developing A Program
The most important piece of the puzzle was developing a coaching program. Without it providing support in a group context quickly turns into a mess of competing needs and goals. By developing a program that will help your clients work towards their goals, the group calls are able to provide the touchpoints they need to have their questions answered. Additionally, like I said earlier, they get a group of like-minded individuals to help support and encourage them along the path.
If you’re feeling like there isn’t enough time in the day while trying to scale your coaching business, then developing a group coaching program is the solution you need. I know because I went through the same block of trying to grow my business while not having the time to take on additional clients. Now I can take on as many clients as I need! And the best part is how flexible it is. Sometimes I notice my groups are getting a little big so I add on an additional call each week. This opens up more spots for clients while only increasing my work by a single call. Other times I need some relaxation so I remove a call and give myself a little more time for self care.
